1995 called and they want their search marketing back

Today has been less than ideal. A few weeks ago I was displaced from a client for a number of reasons but the main one is they had a friend of a friend who needed some consulting work. That isn’t really a big deal clients come and go. What has bothered me is the person they hired keeps throwing me under the bus. The client has no idea what is happening on the web so they believe anything she says. So now my reputation is being dragged through the mud by somebody who is completely clueless as to what is currently happening with web marketing. Some of the things she has shared with the client that left me with my Jaw hanging open.

oldschool1 1995 called and they want their search marketing back “Google can’t index PHP pages” - There is a really simple way to test this claim. go to google and search for “inurl:.php” When I did it there were 1 billion results. The real problem I have since found out is that she doesn’t know how to use PHP or CSS. (no seriously)

“Your website is not being indexed at all” - not to make any excuses but I was only working with the client for 3 months and during that time we took them from a page rank of 0 to a 4 and from 0 indexed pages to 38

The worst part of this isn’t that I was displaced or that I am constantly being thrown under the bus the worst part is now the former client is asking for a refund. They want me to pay half of the cost to rebuild their website in static html. Also she makes these claims and then they contact me upset like they have been ripped off. So I am in the worst possible situation. Not only am I not working for them I am spending time against the account for free just to defend the good work we did. My next post will be on “Weighing your Garbage”.

  1. That’s ridiculous, but that’s always how it goes in those situations. Very few people who follow or replace another worker will say the previous person did a good job. It would take a crazy amount of integrity and honesty which is almost totally absent in the business world. When mitch (I leave the “m” uncapitalized because he doesn’t deserve the respect of a capital “m”.) brought in his bro-in-law to do my job, the guy spent all 40 hours a week trying to figure out how to throw me under in order to make himself look better. That’s all he could do because he didn’t know how to do the job and probably could never figure it out…
